MIDDELBURG – The Middelburg and Hendrina Residents Front (MHRF) are about to launch its election campaign after the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The party entered the elections contest for the first time during the by-elections in Ward 22 and won significant number of votes. Spokesperson Thato Mathunyane told the paper they are getting ready to launch their elections campaign for the local government elections to be held in October 27.
“We have inspired progressives across the municipality to run for the municipal office in the forthcoming local government elections,” he said.
“It is incredibly exciting that the newly born organization that will vanguard the interest of the residents has become talk of the town and currently doubled its membership getting members from both the EFF and ANC,” Mathunyane claimed. Mathunyane further said that their strategy is to launch their campaign in all the wards that they are going to contest. “With no uncertain terms, we will contest less than 20 wards,” he said. “Some wards are even more ready to contest and we are optimistic about winning them.” However Mathunyane could not divulge who their Ward and Mayoral candidates will be. However he said that they will “field other wards with their new recruits from the ANC inclusive of former Councillors”.
