MIDDELBURG – The Democratic Alliance (DA) placed itself ahead of its political foes by being the first in the province to launch voter registration campaigning for the upcoming local government elections on October 27.
The party put its first voter registration posters on the street poles around the SteveTshwete municipality encouraging community members especially first-timers to register to vote. On the same weekend, 9 June, party provincial leader Jane Sithole also put the first Mpumalanga poster in eMalahleni municipality.

DA political head in Steve Tshwete, Morgan Bruiners, told Timeless they are ready for the local government elections they regard as crucial.
“Our campaign is ready to roll,” he said. “It is critical that all community members who will be 18 or older by 27 October ensure that their names are on the voters roll. They can do this on the registration weekend of the 17th and 18th of July, when the IEC will be open at all 29 wards voting stations for voter registration.”
Bruiners also said that his party has been ready since the introduction of level 5 lockdown where they resorted to the use of virtual platforms to stay in constant contact with its constituencies. “We could not complain about having elections under lockdown restrictions while other countries have held elections despite Covid-19. We have launched branches, reviewed our policies and have recently held the largest ever virtual rally in the province,” he said.
“Delivering good services is also the way to bring investment and jobs to towns. And it is also important to remember that the five best run municipalities in South Africa are all governed by the DA.”
