Groblersdal: Desnold Caddywise Golf Club from Pretoria has officially launched the Sekhukhune Golf Development at Groblersdal Golf course on Sunday 11 April. The activity was hosted with a sole mandate of empowering surrounding villages with golf playing skills and raise awareness on opportunities available within the sporting fraternity including caddy work, event organization, golf sport coaching, graphic designing and horticulture. Sporting event organizer, Kwatetsi Segafa, said the launch started with a rehearsal match on Saturday 10 April to ensure that the course, fairways, bunkers and the ground was ready to host the big event the following day.
A nine-hole match was played during the rehearsal matches that guaranteed the readiness of the course for its smooth continuation the following day.
Sunday matches was played by under-18 Junior Jungles from Pretoria who were locking horns with local golfers from Groblersdal. Locals, Tumelo Mosia who was paired with Mpho Mosako and Neo Phahlane gave a stunning performance and won the Junior Top 4. On the senior side, Lucky Malesoena displayed bravery of Sekhukhune side by leading the pack while Dakie Mothibe went on tie with Rimbo Mampana to salvage Tshwane reputation on Top four. The first prize went to Lucky Malesoene with 5 handicap with a cross of 73 and nett of 68. The second prize went to Rimbo Mampana with 7 handicap and 81 cross and a nett of 74. The third prize scooped by Darki Mothibe, handicap 15 cross 91 and 74 nett. Nearest to the pin hole no 4 and 13 was taken by Thabiso Thamaga while number 8 and 17 went to Lucky Malesoene. The longest drive of the day was also taken by Lucky Malesoene. Mosepedi Molokomme, from the Pretoria golfers, promised to reinforce and come back to dethrone Sekhukhune champions in May 2021.
