Johannesburg — Police in Soweto have confiscated a substantial quantity of prescription medication during an intelligence-driven operation in Zola 3 on Thursday.
Members of the Soweto K9 Unit carried out the raid after receiving information about suspected drug-dealing activity at a residential property.
According to police, the suspect fled the scene as officers arrived and allegedly released dogs in an attempt to prevent access to the premises.
Despite this, officers entered the property and conducted a search, during which a large quantity of prescription medicines was discovered and seized.
Police said the recovered items included multiple boxes and bottles of various cough syrups and pain medication, as well as tablets suspected to have been intended for illegal distribution.
The seized substances include Stillpain syrup, Painagon syrup, Astrapain syrup, Broncleer syrup, Phenorant syrup and Mylan tablets.
Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage, and that the suspect remains at large while investigations continue.
Police have launched a manhunt as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the illegal diversion and distribution of prescription medication.
The operation forms part of a broader law enforcement focus on the misuse and unlawful trade of controlled pharmaceutical products in Gauteng.
