NUM ELECTS NEW OFFICE BEARER

Boksburg: 670 National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) delegates have elected new leadership, during the 3 day elective congress which took place at Birchwood Hotel East of Johannesburg. The union was divided into two factions which were led by the outgone President Joseph Montisetse and the then acting General Secretary and the newly elected General William Mabapa. The delegates voted for Dan Baipile as the new President Baipile who is from Rustenburg Region which commands huge membership numbers more than other regions , Phillip Vilakazi was retained as the Deputy President, William Mabapa was elected General Secretary after serving in the same position in acting capacity after death of David Siphunzi, Mpho Phakedi is the Deputy General Secretary after serving in the same position in acting capacity . Helen Diatile is the new Treasurer General and the only woman to be elected in the top 5 and the following individuals were elected into different portfolio Committees;
Education Chairperson : Olehile Kgware
Education Secretary : Lefty Mashego
Health and Safety Chairperson: Duncan Luvuno
Health and Safety Secretary : Masibulele Naki
The newly elected NUM President Dan Baipile has urged the two warring factions to put their leadership preferences aside and focus on building a vibrant and working class bias union.
