The Forum of Community Journalists (FCJ) again partnered with AVBOB Mutual Society to host the 2022 AVBOB FCJ Excellence Awards and entries will open next week.

This year the Forum introduces a new category for promising photographers, and we encourage young journalists and photographers to enter the Upcoming Photographer of the Year category. Photographers with less than three years’ experience qualify to enter this category.

“This new category and the Alet Roux Award for the most promising young journalist highlights the Forum’s aim to promote excellence in young media storytellers.

We hope by extending our junior categories, the future of a credible media is more secured as it encourages youngsters to excel in all spheres of news reportage,” says FCJ Executive Director Marietta Lombard.

The 2022 awards will be held in Cape Town on 4 August 2023. The Top 10 finalists in each category will be invited to attend the prize giving gala dinner which will be preceded by

the AVBOB FCJ National Training Seminar and AGM.

The AVBOB FCJ Annual Excellence Awards is aimed at encouraging excellence and rewarding meritorious work in local and community print media.

Only permanent and regular freelance editorial staff members working for such media in South Africa may enter. Regular freelance means such a person must contribute to your publication at least once a month on average.
