MAMPURU DAY BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND

*Mamone* : on Saturday Pedi-Mamone Tribal Authority resumed the celebrations of Mampuru Day two years after the event was postponed indefinitely due to Covid19 related restrictions and year after the demise of Mampuru III. On Saturday multitudes of people flocked to Mamone to celebrate and commemorate the Mampuru Day, in remembrance of their paramount king Mapuru II who was embarrassed and stripped of his human dignity in full public glare before he was executed by Republican Government at the then Pretoria Central Prison on the 22 November 1883. In honor of this fallen martyr South African Traditional Music Awards organizers have conferred an honorary award to Kgoshi Mampuru II. This award is befitting for the fallen hero because since the inception of Mampuru Day, the event has produced lot of artists who embraces Bapedi Folklore Music like Frans Mankgane ho has gained immense popularity and promince since making his debut appearance at this event in 2010. __Timeless News_ caught up with him on the sidelines of the event, he could not hide his joy after hearing that SATMA has conferred an honorary award to the slained Bapedi Monarch ” I am very much excited that SATMA has finally recognized this event that has been a platform for some of us to horne and express our talents as bapedi folklore musicians and I believe that nominations and winners for this genre will increase in honor of the talent that we have here” said Mr Mankgane . Amongst the dignitaries who graced the event, were Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Inkosi Patekile Holomisa, MEC Roads,Infrastructure and Public Works Namane Masemola, the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Julia Lata Mathebe, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Minah Bahula as well as and Member of the Mayoral Committee MMC Mafefe and local councillors.
