The corruption trial against former President Jacob Zuma has been postponed for August 10.
Judge Piet Koen made the ruling at Kwazulu Natal high court on Tuesday after Zuma appeared in court virtually from the prison where he is currently serving 15months jail time for being in contempt of court.
On Monday, Zuma’s advocate Thabani Masuku SC accused the national prosecuting authority (NPA) of treating Zuma differently to other persons accused.
“It is not right for the state, particularly the NPA to want to treat Zuma differently. They have been doing that for too long.” Masuku said.
Zuma faces charges of fraud corruption and racketeering related to the 1999 arms deal.
Zuma asked for postponement because of the pandemic and recent unrest happening throughout the country. His lawyers argued that the State would not suffer any prejudice if the matter was postponed.
