LET’S EMBRACE OUR GOD GIVEN TALENTS
BY THULANE MADALANE
More often than not we hear people making bold proclamations like this is my God given talent. The word Talent is derived from the Greek word talenton, but now the real question is what is a talent? talent is a natural aptitude or ability to do something. We have people who are talented athletes, artists, speakers, teachers, writers etc. Lets hear what the book of life says about God Given Talent (Genesis chapter 4 v 2b “And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground”.)This scripture gives the origin of natural aptitude or abilities of two siblings Cain and Abel, now that’s where the “God Given Talent” came into being, because God blessed Adam and Eve with two sons with different abilities. What I like about the coining of the words” God Given Talent” they credit God as a bearer of all our talents. Now I want to create a hypothetic talent identification process that will help us to understand and work in harmony in everything we do. Let’s begin our identification process, let’s say you have two children the gender is not important here and they are between the ages of three and six. As parents we need to pay attention on these two children repeatative behavior. That repeatative behavior could anything from coming between two of his friends who are quarreling or someone who sings an interestings songs that are only known and understood by singer. They could be so many examples based on each individual parent(s) observation of their children. The two case studies I have mentioned above it means, the first child is talented in the area of problem solving that child could become a preacher, an engineer or businessman and the second case study it means the second child could be a musician, music composer, music producer or even a sound engineer. Let me emphasize that children behavioral patterns are not static they depend on the parental support but equally important not all children behavioral patterns should be harnessed others are negative they need to be corrected for instance stealing or bullying others should not be encouraged.
There are people who are grown ups today
but they are not even sure about their God Given Talent, I remember my friend James who loved media business from childhood but later in his life, he was enticed by the world of tenderpreneurship. He did well for awhile but everytime after being paid he will call me and start talking about how he want to build his media empire, he will sometimes cry just to accentuate how much he loves the media business, one day we met at Primi-Piatti in Bedfordview and he broke the good news to me that he is finally hanging the tenderpreneurship envelope for his own media company. Now that’s classic example of God Given Talent because it was bugging him repeatedly finally he responded to his true calling and he is now doing well and he has a staff compliment of 30 people. The other example is that of Patrick a friend of my friend but he is still my friend anyway. Patrick grew up fancing himself as the next big hip hop artist, somehow he went to tertiary to do media studies, upon completion he found his way to Germany, we expected him to become an executive in a big company alas Patrick has gone back to hip-hop and he is doing well, his latest single is out and he is featuring a German violin player, that’s a God Given Talent. The best way to identify your God Given Talent is to listen to your innerman ( Ephesians 3 v16 “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man”) that’s the nerve centre that God uses to communicate with us. Lastly your God Given Talent, will make you dine with Queens and Kings, it will raise and school your children, it will buy that dream house and that car for you, Father Trevor Huddleston saw passion and love for music in Hugh Masekela and bought him a fluggelhorn and Bra Hugh became a renowned musician worldwide playing alongside Fela Kuti, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Terrutine and others that’s a God Given Talent at the highest level.
