ARNOT: Arnot Primary School, in Sikhululiwe Village, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality received the new classrooms to the tune of R5.6 Million.
The initiative was part of Exxaro and Arnot OPCO Mines’ commitment to investing in the future and improving the quality of life for its host communities.
The project was officially handed over to the school on Friday 16 April 2021, by the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Exxaro together with Arnot OPCO.
MEC for Education in Mpumalanga, Bonakele Majuba said the department appreciate the noble gesture from Exxaro and Arnot Mines and pledged to work hard to protect the investment.
“This day will be captured in history as a great milestone in the betterment of teaching and learning in the community of Arnot and the province as a whole,” Majuba said.
He added that the donated classrooms will ensure a better teaching learning environment in Arnot and surrounding area.
“For us as a nation, there is no greater pride and joy than experiencing the faces of learners lighting up because of improvements made to better their learning surroundings, as well as their prospects of a promising brighter future,” emphasized Majuba.
He indicated the fact that “It is common knowledge that an environment that is conducive for teaching and learning propels them to achieve even better, as it has the potential and propensity to instil self-confidence, positively changes mind-sets and improves self-determination.” “For this, we are truly grateful to Exxaro and Arnot Mines C. Without any shadow of doubt we are convinced that this infrastructural development milestone will truly restore the dignity of our learners in this community and enhance their prowess”. Majuba said.
