Mbombela:The much anticipated and government endorsed Metro FM Music Awards (MMA) are expected to create a great hype while also bolstering tourism in the province, particularly Mbombela, where the awards and other related activities will be hosted this coming weekend.

The traffic volumes are expected to increase as many people are expected to visit Mpumalanga from other provinces and neighbouring countries.

The law enforcement and other members of the security cluster will be strategically deployed to ensure that patrons and participants are safe and that there is law and order.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, is therefore calling on all people who will be gracing the MMA and other related festivities, to obey the rules of the road and also drive with great caution in order to avoid crashes.

“While we are all excited and looking forward to this weekend, let us use the road cautiously and enjoy responsibly. We don’t want to see any person losing their lives due to reckless driver behaviour. Roads are shared spaces, let us all be considerate towards all road users,” says Shongwe.

The MEC further reminded all law enforcement officers to show no leniency to those who break the law.

He say those who will be caught drinking in public or driving while they are drunk will be arrested.

Shongwe is also calling on liquor traders or tavern owners to comply with the conditions of their licenses.

“Taverns must close and open on time unless temporary permits have be arranged with the Mpumalanga EConomic Regulator,” insists the MEC.

He further warns members of the public to be vigilant and wary of any opportunistic criminals who may want to prey on patrons. He also appeals to communities to report any suspicious activities or people to the police. This according to the MEC, include those who may attempt to sell fake tickets to unsuspecting people.
