Dennilton: A fatal accident has claimed live of three people at Dennilton on Saturday 3 April. The head on collision accident involved a VW Polo and a Mahindra on the D856 Road near Philadelphia Hospital.
Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety Spokesperson, Mike Maringa said one passenger sustained serious injuries while four people died instantly.
“Drivers of both vehicles and two passengers were certified dead on the scene. One passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital,” he said.
Maringa said reckless driving will not be ruled out as a possible cause of the accident.
Maringa added that in another accident, one person died in a head on crash on the R81 Road outside Giyani Town.
“It is alleged that a Hyundai Sedan driver was overtaking on a barrier line and collided with an oncoming Toyota Sedan. The Hyundai driver was killed instantly and the passenger escaped with minor injuries,” explained Maringa.
He said the driver of the Toyota Sedan and the passenger sustained serious injuries and were also taken to Khensani Hospital.
More than 100 people have been killed across the country during Easter weekend, with the highest number of fatalities reported in Limpopo with 27 people, followed by KwaZulu Natal with 26 reported deaths.
The lowest number of fatalities were reported in Northern Cape and Free State, where only two people died on the roads in the provinces.
