Alexandria — Residents of Alexandria in Ward 5, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, will soon have better access to healthcare following the launch of construction on a new community clinic.
The sod-turning ceremony was led by Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Manzini, who said the project would address the shortage of local healthcare facilities. For years, residents have depended on clinics in Oakley and Marite, often travelling long distances and facing high transport costs.
“This new clinic will bring healthcare services closer to home, reducing travel burdens and improving health outcomes,” said one community member.
Kgosi Lameck Mokoena, President of CONTRALESA, praised the development, saying it would ease congestion at nearby clinics and transform community livelihoods.
The project is part of efforts to expand access to healthcare under the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme, with oversight visits planned to ensure quality service delivery.
Ehlanzeni District Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Terror Shabangu expressed hope that the facility would be fully operational by 2026.
“This clinic will make a real difference in the lives of our people,” he said.
The Alexandria Clinic is expected to significantly improve healthcare access for residents of Alexandria and surrounding areas.
