South Africa: The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has formally dismissed recent social media claims suggesting that the organization has advised South Africans against using their private vehicles for personal travel.

In a detailed media statement issued Sunday, SANTACO clarified that it has never issued such directives and condemned the spread of false information that could undermine public trust.

According to the statement, circulating messages on social media implying that SANTACO prohibits the use of private vehicles are entirely unfounded.

The council emphasized that its role remains focused on regulating taxi services, which are voluntary and an essential part of South Africa’s transportation network.

It highlighted that individual taxi operators and commuters are free to choose their preferred modes of transport.

The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to legal compliance and transparency.

SANTACO stated that only law enforcement agencies have the authority to enforce transport regulations and urged the public to report any incidents of harassment or unlawful conduct directly to the relevant authorities.

It cautioned media outlets and individuals to exercise caution and verify facts before disseminating information that could damage the sector’s reputation.

SANTACO’s leadership reiterated its dedication to serving the nation with integrity. “We remain committed to ensuring a safe, reliable, and transparent transport environment for all South Africans,” the statement concluded.
