Peddie – Residents in the rural outskirts of Peddie, within the Ngqushwa Local Municipality, continue to struggle with accessing a consistent water supply—if any at all.

To address this challenge, Amatola Water has reported notable progress regarding water services in the Ngqushwa area.

Many Peddie residents still rely heavily on collecting rainwater in drums to meet most of their household water needs.

Speaking at a mayoral imbizo yesterday, Amathole District Municipality’s Executive Manager of Operations, Mr. S. Qweleka, highlighted a successful collaboration currently underway between Amathole District Municipality (ADM), Ngqushwa Local Municipality, and Amatola Water. This partnership, he said, has already led to the resolution of critical water issues in communities such as Emazizini.

“This initiative reflects a robust partnership dedicated to enhancing community well-being,” he stated.

This comes despite ongoing challenges in improving overall service delivery—particularly in terms of water access.

Qweleka, however, maintains that despite these obstacles, government remains committed to providing safe drinking water to all communities, even amid the constraints posed by limited resources.
