Ramaphosa Appoints Judge Dunstan Mlambo as Deputy Chief Justice

Pretoria:President Cyril Ramaphosa has formally appointed Judge President Dunstan Mlambo as South Africa’s new Deputy Chief Justice, effective immediately.

This appointment aligns with Section 174(3) of the Constitution and follows a comprehensive consultation process. Judge Mlambo, who previously held the position of Judge President of the Gauteng Division of the High Court, brings extensive experience and a robust commitment to upholding constitutional values to his new role.

In a formal communication to Chief Justice Mandisa Maya, President Ramaphosa remarked, “This decision comes after careful consideration of the recommendations made by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and valuable input from political parties in the National Assembly.”

The President also expressed his gratitude to Chief Justice Maya and the JSC, acknowledging their “inclusive and diligent approach” throughout the selection process. “Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring a transparent appointment that reflects the integrity of our judiciary,” he added.
