Chrissiesmeer– In a prompt response to livestock theft, the police in Chrissiesmeer successfully recovered 14 sheep that had been stolen from a local farm on Saturday morning. The incident unfolded around 10 AM when the farmer noticed the absence of the sheep during his usual count at the grazing camp, immediately prompting him to alert the authorities.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered that the farm’s fence had been cut, indicating a clear sign of intrusion. Following up on leads from the investigation, officers conducted searches that eventually led them to a location approximately 25 kilometers away in Warbutorn, where all 14 sheep were found tied up. The estimated value of the recovered livestock is around R35,000.

While the sheep were successfully returned to their owner, authorities are still in pursuit of the suspects involved in the theft.

Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the dedicated efforts of the Vispol members in Chrissiesmeer, who collaborated effectively with the Wardens and the Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit. “Our teams acted swiftly, and their commitment resulted in the successful recovery of the livestock. While stock theft remains a significant challenge in our province, we aim to combat this issue through community awareness. We urge our communities not to buy stolen goods; together, we can make a difference,” he stated.

The police continue their search for the suspects, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the fight against crime. With the public’s assistance, authorities hope to bring those responsible for this theft to justice, ensuring the safety and security of local farmers and thbeir livestock.
