Polokwane – Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, remains in legal limbo after yet another delay in his bail proceedings. The artist made a brief appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the court announced that his postponed bail hearing will now be heard on Thursday, 27 November 2025.

The latest delay follows the state’s decision to add six additional charges to the case, pushing it into the more serious Schedule 6 category. The new allegations include attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, two counts of assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm and the negligent discharge of a firearm.

According to prosecutors, the charges relate to a 19 October incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, where Chauke allegedly fired at a motorist who had approached him as a fan. The shot reportedly struck the driver in the jaw and shattered a vehicle window.

Outside court, defence advocate Lot Ramusi told journalists that the legal team needed time to study the newly submitted evidence.
“We maintain that the requirements for bail will be met,” he said. “Once we properly address these new developments, we are confident the court will find it appropriate to grant our client bail.”

Ramusi added that proceeding without examining the expanded docket would be unreasonable.

State prosecutor Kgaogelo Lekoloane confirmed the consolidation of the cases, saying the musician now faces a total of nine charges.
“We are ready to proceed with the bail application,” Lekoloane said. “The defence must simply indicate whether they are prepared to continue.”

Shebeshxt’s legal team says the ongoing delays are having a major financial impact.
“He is currently one of the most booked artists in South Africa, and because of these postponements, he’s being forced to return deposits for festive-season gigs,” Ramusi explained.

The magistrate set the next hearing for Thursday, when the court will decide whether the rapper can be released on bail while the serious charges proceed. Until then, Chauke remains in custody, with supporters and critics alike closely watching the case’s next move.
