Groblersdal– Sexual escapades with a minor girl have backfired badly on a 25-year-old man when he was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape by the Groblersdal Regional Court in Limpopo recently.

The man, whose name is withheld to protect the minor’s identity, was also permanently prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The court heard the 13-year-old girl visited her aunt in Dennilton, and during the night, while sleeping on a couch, the accused, who is her cousin, entered the room and raped her. A few months later, he lured her into a different room for another sexual escapade. After the act, he ordered her never to tell anyone about “their secret affair.”

But the girl later informed the accused’s sister that her brother had raped her multiple times. The sister then reported the matter to their mother, and a rape docket was subsequently opened at Dennilton Police Station. This led to the arrest of the suspect, who was revealed in court.

“The matter was transferred to the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS). The suspect appeared at the magistrate’s court several times with investigating officer, Warrant Officer Victoria Phala, opposing bail. He was eventually convicted and sentenced to a life term,” said provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Masekela Magoro.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the sentence and saluted the court, prosecutors and police officers for securing a life imprisonment for a man who committed sexual violations on a minor girl.
