VHEMBE REGION EXPRESSES GRIEF OVER THE LOSS OF CDE DAVID MOKOBI

Musina – The African National Congress (ANC) in the Vhembe Region is mourning the untimely passing of  David Mokobi, who passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. Mokobi, a stalwart in his community, served as a councillor for Ward 02 within the Musina Local Municipality and was known for his unwavering commitment to public service.

In a heartfelt statement, ANC Spokesperson Frank Chililoarticulated the deep sense of loss felt within the party and the community. “Comrade Mokobi’s dedication to the revolutionary movement was unparalleled. His commitment and passion for serving the people will forever remain etched in our memories,” stated Chililo. He went on to emphasize the pivotal role Mokobiplayed in shaping local governance, noting that his recent participation in the Regional General Council demonstrated his active engagement in the future of the ANC.

At 55 years old, Mokobi’s journey in public service was notable. Before assuming his role as a ward councillor, he served as a skills development facilitator in the same municipality, making significant contributions to the empowerment of local residents.

The ANC Vhembe Region has rallied its members, alliance partners, and the broader Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) to come together and support the Mokobi family during these trying times. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mokobi family, friends, and colleagues. May his revolutionary spirit rest in eternal peace,” concluded Chililo.

In response to Mokobi’s passing, Musina Mayor, Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela, shared his condolences, describing the loss as a painful blow to both the Musinamunicipality and the Mokobi family. “Cllr Mokobi was a reliable and hardworking public representative, dedicated to creating a better Musina for all its residents. We wish his family courage and peace during this time of mourning,” Mayor Mawela noted.

A delegation led by Mayor Mawela visited the Mokobi family to offer their support. The gathering included a moment of prayer, with various speakers conveying their condolences and honoring Mokobi’s legacy.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday at 11 AM at the Nancefield Multi-Purpose Centre, with the burial scheduled for Saturday morning. As the community gathers to remember Comrade David Mokobi, his impact and legacy in Musina will surely be cherished and honored for years to come.
