Preliminary reports suggest an unattended imbawula—a makeshift heating drum may have started the blaze.

Earlier in the week, a fire reportedly set by a man during a dispute destroyed over 50 shacks, displacing around 85 residents.

The City of Ekurhuleni is providing temporary shelter in community halls and churches.

Authorities urge residents to handle heating devices carefully and emphasize fire safety in densely populated settlements.
