Stellenbosch – A 54-year-old teacher was shot dead outside a primary school in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, on Friday afternoon, police confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 1:10pm on Winnie Mandela Drive, near the main gate of Kayamandi Primary School. Officers responding to the scene found the man with a gunshot wound; he was declared dead on arrival.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg of Stellenbosch Police said a murder case has been registered. “The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation and no arrests have been made,” he added.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist the investigation. Tip-offs can be made anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or the MySAPS app.
This killing highlights ongoing security concerns for educators in the Western Cape and comes amid growing national attention on attacks targeting school staff in vulnerable communities.
