Middelburg:the clock ticks down to the much-anticipated National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, the Speaker of Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (STLM), Selape Mathunyane, took a moment to extend his heartfelt well-wishes to the matriculants of 2024. “Now is the time to prove that we, as the STLM, are still the leading municipality when it comes to pretertiary academic excellence,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of education in improving community well-being and commended the efforts made to create a conducive learning environment, particularly in light of the ongoing electricity challenges faced at the start of 2024.

Mathunyane expressed his deep admiration for the learners who persevered through the trials of their educational journey, some spanning as long as 15 years. “To each candidate registered for the 2024 NSC examination, you have shown resilience in the face of adversity. This is your moment to reap the rewards of your hard work,” he affirmed, acknowledging that the path to matric graduation is often filled with obstacles.

Highlighting the significance of this examination period, Mathunyane declared that Steve Tshwete Municipality stands as a flagship of education within the province. “We expect that your performance in the upcoming NSC examination, scheduled from October 21 to November 28, will mirror the high standards that we have set together,” he said. He expressed confidence that an invitation to receive accolades in January 2025 will be a testament to the collective effort of both educators and learners.

Mathunyane reminded the matriculants of their shared responsibility to uphold the municipality’s academic excellence. He commended educators for their dedication and urged learners fully engage in their studies, resist negative distractions, and seize every opportunity presented to them. “You are not merely learners; you are valuable assets to our community and country,” he stated, emphasizing that the government views their potential as integral to national growth and development.

In a motivating call to action, he announced that STLM will be offering bursary opportunities for those who achieve outstanding results in the final examinations, paving the way for higher learning prospects. “Make your final results visible and turn them into daily motivation as you prepare for the exams,” he advised.

As he conclude his address, Mathunyane imparted wise words from motivational speaker Tony Robbins: “Goal setting is the secret to a compelling future.” He encouraged the students to embrace their goals with resolve and determination, reminding them that their hard work today will lay the foundation for their future successes.

With the entire community rallying behind them, the matriculants of 2024 stand poised to make their mark in what promises to be a defining chapter of their educational journeys.
