SHONGWE APPLAUDS POLICE FOR NABBING DRUG MANUFACTURERS
Mpumalanga:Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Vusi Shongwe, has praised the team that steered an intelligence driven operation which led to the arrest of sixteen (16) Mozambican and Zimbabwean foreign nationals for illegally operating a drug laboratory as well as a refinery at Klipspruit farm near Delmas. The suspects are aged between 15 and 43 years.
A team, which comprised of National Crime Intelligence, Ekurhuleni East Crime Intelligence, Middelburg K9 Unit, Middelburg DPCI, Delmas SAPS and members of the Neighbourhood Watch, made the arrest on Tuesday, 01 August 2023.
The team investigated five buildings in the farm where some equipment was discovered.
In the fifth building, which was allegedly used as a Drug Laboratory, the team recovered some equipment used in illegal activities.
The team also recovered TLB, which was reportedly stolen in Gauteng. Three other vehicles believed to have been used during illicit activities, were also seized for further investigation.
MEC Shongwe hailed the team, saying such operations should to be the order of the day as part of efforts to curb crime in the province.
He also thanked the Neighbourhood Watch for working with the police to expose the evil nest.
The MEC has appealed to the police to ensure that perpetrators face the full might of the law. This, the MEC says, will contribute towards eliminating drug dealing in the country.
“We have seen the negative and destruction brought by drugs in many communities. We cannot sit back and allow selfish people to destroy the future of our country.”
“These heartless people are only interested in raking ill gotten money at the expense of communities, especially young people. It is high time that these people are put behind bars.” MEC Shongwe exclaimed.
The MEC has also called on communities to expose drug dealers in the province. He said that perpetrators of crime are members of communities and are known.
