PRETORIA – In a recent Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting, General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), convened with all nine provincial commissioners to tackle the pressing issue of crime in South Africa. The BOC, the highest decision-making body within SAPS, comprises Provincial Commissioners, Divisional Commissioners, and the Acting National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).

During the meeting, General Masemola expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to dismantle organized crime syndicates operating within the country. “We are actively dismantling, dislodging, and displacing criminal networks, and those responsible will be arrested,” he stated.

A major focus of the discussion was the recent remarks from Lesotho Police Chief, Advocate Borotho Matsoso. The attendees reviewed a preliminary report from the crime intelligence division, which revealed that intelligence operations are being intensified to investigate allegations of illegal activities.

The DPCI, also known as the HAWKS Crimes Against the State (CATS) unit, has been involved in various searches at identified locations, including farms, although no evidence has been uncovered thus far.

In light of the allegations raised by Advocate Matsoso, General Masemola reached out to his counterpart in Lesotho to ensure a coordinated investigation. Both leaders agreed that their respective intelligence agencies will work closely to probe the claims regarding the existence of unlawful camps.

Reassuring South Africans, General Masemola emphasized that the safety and security of the population are paramount. “Anyone found committing illegal acts in this country will face the full might of the law,” he affirmed, adding that intelligence operatives are actively working to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.

Authorities also urge citizens to remain calm, assuring them that police from both South Africa and Lesotho are on high alert as they collaborate in these efforts to ensure community safety.
