Ramaphosa Appoints New Minister and Deputy Minister of Higher Education

Pretoria: In a significant reshuffle within his administration, President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mr. Buti Kgwaridi Manamela as the new Minister of Higher Education and Training, according to Section 91 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. This decision comes after the removal of Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane from the ministerial position.

Mr. Manamela, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training under the sixth administration, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. President Ramaphosa remarked on the appointment, stating, “Mr. Manamela’s dedication and expertise in the realm of education will play a crucial role in propelling our higher education sector forward. I have every confidence in his ability to lead effectively and address the challenges facing our institutions.”

In addition to Mr. Manamela’s appointment, Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube has been designated as the new Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, as authorized under Section 93 (b) of the Constitution. Dr. Dube-Ncube has an extensive background in governance, having previously served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, as well as the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Province.

In his remarks, President Ramaphosa highlighted the importance of strong leadership within the higher education sector, stating, “Dr. Dube-Ncube’s vast experience will undoubtedly enhance our efforts in ensuring quality education and training for all South Africans. Together, Mr. Manamela and Dr. Dube-Ncube will work towards strengthening our higher education system and fostering an environment conducive to learning and development.”

This reshuffling marks a pivotal moment for the South African government as it aims to navigate the complexities of the education sector and promote opportunities for growth and innovation in higher education. The appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to prioritizing education as a cornerstone for the nation’s future development.
