Premier Ramathuba Congratulates Dr. Mabelebele on New Role as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Limpopo

The Limpopo Provincial Office has officially congratulated Dr. Jeffrey Mabelebele on his recent appointment as Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Limpopo, effective January 1, 2026. This announcement was made by the University Council on July 11, 2025, marking a significant transition as Dr. Mabelebele succeeds Prof. Mahlo Mokgalong in this vital leadership role.

Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba expressed her enthusiasm for Dr. Mabelebele’s appointment, emphasizing the importance of his leadership experience in education. “We are delighted to celebrate Dr. Mabelebele’s well-deserved achievement. His extensive background and dedication to higher education will undoubtedly position the University for a successful future,” said Premier Ramathuba.

The Premier acknowledged Dr. Mabelebele’s pivotal role as Registrar in the establishment of the province’s medical school, noting that his efforts have made a substantial impact on higher education in Limpopo. “His in-depth understanding of both academic and administrative functions equips him to lead with effectiveness and vision,” she added.

Looking to the future, Premier Ramathuba highlighted the critical need for collaboration between the University and the provincial government to tackle pressing challenges, including economic growth and unemployment. “We are eager for Dr. Mabelebele’s leadership to help cultivate a skilled workforce capable of addressing poverty and fostering sustainable development in our province,” she stated.

Before this new appointment, Dr. Mabelebele served as Registrar and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, building on more than a decade of experience as the Registrar at the University of Limpopo. His wealth of knowledge and proven track record present a promising future for the University and the community it serves.
