The African National Congress (ANC), in Mpumalanga has temporarily suspended the membership of a well-know a Zuma supporter and leader of now defunct Practical Radical Economic Transformation (PRET), Michael Ngrayi Ngwenya.
Ngwenya’s suspension follows his alleged mobilisation of party branches and travelled to Nkandla, northwen part of KwaZulu Natal, to support former President Jacob Zuma on the 4th of July.
Ngwenya was part of a large contingent of Zuma supporters that had gathered outside his Nkandla home to give support after the Constitutional Court sentenced him to 15-month imprisonment for defying an order to testify at the Zondo Commission.
He was also vocal on national tv making statements like he “will die for President Zuma”.
In a statement seen by the publication, the party said it has decided to summarily suspend the membership of Ngwenya for a number of acts which appear to be in conflict with the constitution, values, principles and traditions of the ANC.
“The ANC took a decision to temporarily suspend the membership of Mr Ngrayi Ngwenya after it considered the nature and seriousness of the alleged misconduct or contravention, the impact of the alleged contravention on the proper functioning of the organization and the likelihood of further acts of similar misconduct if his membership is not temporarily suspended,” the statement said.
The disciplinary process is initiated in terms of rule 25 of the ANC constitution which amongst many other things explicitly say that disciplinary processes must not be used to stifle internal debate, but as used a last resort to restore discipline and cohesion in the organization.
A party member who spoke on condition of anonymity said Ngwenya is one of those loyal ANC members targeted for supporting a good course of radically transforming the lives of black people economically.
“We know that there has been several attempts before to deal with comrade Ngrayi for his determination to undermine white monopoly capital,” anonymous said.
