Mbombela:Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu has implemented significant changes to the Provincial Executive Council, signaling a new direction for governance in the province. During a press briefing in Mbombela on Tuesday, he announced the removal of Education MEC Cathy Dlamini and Economic Development and Tourism MEC Makhosazane Masilela from their positions. This decision aims to strengthen accountability and enhance service delivery across the province.

In a major development, former Ehlanzeni Executive Mayor Ms. Jesta Sidell has been appointed as the new MEC for Economic Development and Tourism. Additionally, Premier Ndlovu announced the appointment of Ms. Lindi Lettie Masina as MEC for Education, Ms. Khethiwe Moeketsi as MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, and Ms. Nompumelelo Hlophe as MEC for Social Development. Ms. Immy Serakalala, Head of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT), welcomed Sidell to the team, expressing enthusiasm for her leadership.

Reports suggest that Dlamini’s removal was prompted by escalating concerns over irregularities in tender processes within the Education Department, underscoring the need for a change in leadership.

In articulating the rationale for the cabinet reshuffle, Premier Ndlovu emphasized the importance of accountability in governance. He remarked, “These decisions are made with the welfare of our community in mind. Embracing change is crucial for our future endeavors and challenges.” .”

The Premier expressed confidence in the appointments of the new MECs, highlighting that these changes align with the province’s key priorities of promoting inclusive growth, job creation, reducing poverty, and addressing the high cost of living, all while building a capable, ethical, and developmental state.

This unexpected cabinet overhaul is anticipated to have significant consequences in the political arena as Ndlovu aims to strengthen his leadership in anticipation of the upcoming 2026 elections.

As these changes take effect, political analysts will closely monitor the evolving dynamics in Mpumalanga and assess the potential impact on provincial governance moving forward.
