Eastern Cape– Eastern Cape Education MEC, Fundile Gade, has suspended all learners from David Mama Senior Secondary School who were involved in a shocking bullying incident that went viral on social media over the weekend.
The MEC has also suspended the scholar transport driver who failed to intervene while a young girl was repeatedly assaulted by fellow learners.
A disturbing video shows a female learner from David Mama Senior Secondary in Mdantsane being attacked inside the scholar transport vehicle. The footage quickly gained traction online, sparking outrage across the country.

Additional footage shows the victim being further assaulted and mocked by other learners as she walks home, attempting to protect herself.
MEC Gade visited the school on Monday and has pledged support for the victim, including access to emotional and medical assistance.
“The Department has a strict anti-bullying policy under the BELA Act,” said MEC Gade.
“In addition, the Department of Basic Education has signed a safety protocol with SAPS to combat school violence, drug abuse, and bullying. Random checks are being conducted in flagged schools nationwide.”
