Jane Furse: Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality recently held its fourth quarter Executive Committee (EXCO) Lekgotla, presided over by Mayor Cllr. Masekwele Merah Mahlase. The meeting focused on evaluating the key performance indicators for the projects and programs implemented during the quarter, reflecting a strong commitment to progress within the municipality.

This quarterly Lekgotla is mandated by the Municipal Systems Act and aligns with the Municipality’s Performance Management Policy. It ensures that the political leadership thoroughly reviews management reports in line with the approved Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and the Service Delivery Basic Implementation Plan (SDBIP).

The results from the previous quarter (April to June 2025) revealed a commendable achievement, with the Municipality meeting 96 out of 102 planned targets, translating to an impressive 95% actual performance. Additionally, across the entire financial year of 2024-2025, the Municipality set 125 targets and successfully achieved 120 of them, representing 96% of the yearly objectives.

The Chief Whip of the Council, Cllr. Mosedi Thamaga, expressed gratitude to the EXCO and management for their outstanding performance, stating, “This is a great move in the right direction for the Municipality.” His words underscore the collaborative effort of the leadership to drive the municipality forward.

Municipal Manager Mr. Ronald Moganedi presented a comprehensive overview report for the fourth quarter of 2024-2025, illustrating the Municipality’s proactive approach to sustainable growth and development. Significant accomplishments included:

– Enhanced internal capabilities for VAT recovery

– Acquisition of five specialized waste management vehicles

– Activation of the Registering Authority (RA) by the Department of Transport

– Completion of the Maila Mapitsane to Magolego access road (5 km)

– Completion of Kome internal road (3.2 km)

– Improved revenue collection from the Traffic Unit

– Full utilization of grants (MIG, FMG, EPWP, ES)

– Execution of water and sanitation projects through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sedibeng District Municipality

– Assistance provided to three SMMEs participating in the Africa Travel Indaba 2025 held in Durban

Mayor Mahlase reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to enhancing community welfare through the strategic distribution of public resources and developmental projects. She emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders to address service delivery challenges, stating, “The Municipality is determined to engage all stakeholders on service delivery challenges.”

As Makhuduthamaga Municipality continues on this path of progress, its leadership and management remain dedicated to fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for its residents.
