MAKHUDUTHAMAGA HOST IT’S INAUGURAL CHORAL MUSIC CONCERTO

Ga-Moloi: On Saturday Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Sports, Recreation,Arts and Culture department hosted its inaugural Choral Concert at Photo Primary School in Ga-Moloi in the outskirts of Jane Furse, which involved choral music groups from its four clusters. This inaugural event tested Makhuduthamaga’s strength to host an annual choral music concert. Initially the office of the Mayor wanted to start big by means of buying uniform for all local choral music. The plan was delayed because the municipality did not want to exclude other choral music groups. Municipal database which consisted of some groups that are active and inactive however after some efforts from both the municipality and community arts practitioners ten community and five school choral music groups were selected for a one-day competition. The Municipality was represented by Cllr Rankwe who addressed the patrons of the concert on behalf of the Mayor Cllr Minah Bahula who had other commitments.

Cllr Rankwe noted with concern the challenges that some of the groups face, “ as the municipality we know some of the common problems that local choral music groups are experiencing, such as lack of uniform for stage performances, instruments, accommodation and transport particularly when travelling faraway to represent Sekhukhune” said Rankwe. He further stated that the municipality want to revive the competitiveness of community choirs, “ We want to revive the competitiveness of community choirs as a way of promoting social cohesion which will also keep our youth off the streets which will nullify the impact of crime and substance abuse amongst young people who mostly grapple with challenges of unemployment and we promise the ease some of these issues as we conclude Women’s month such as shortage of female conductors, professional piano players, organized local choral music structures and key amongst them is to include schools with special needs and people living with disabilities ” concluded Rankwe.

Participating community received melodious keyboards, clap instruments and trophies. The following groups were selected by Local Arts Council to participate on the festival, based on cluster representation, merit and their state of readiness .

Malegale Melodious Choir – Village: Malegale

Bopedi Bapedi Choir – Village: ga-Marishane

Comprehensive School Choir – Village: Jane Furse

Moreko School Choir – Village: Nebo
