Siyabuswa – The South African Minister of Tourism, Ms. Patricia de Lille, together with Deputy Minister Ms. Maggie Sotyu, is preparing for a key community engagement on Friday, August 1, 2025.

This event, hosted by the Dr. JS Moroka Local Municipality at the Ga-Morwe Community Hall in the Nkangala District Municipality, is part of the G20 Tourism Priority initiative aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism through strategic investments.

This gathering will feature various stakeholders, including tourism industry representatives, government officials, and financial institutions, all converging to discuss the conservation of tourism sites and the associated benefits for economic growth.

Masabatha Ramatsestse, Spokesperson for the Dr. JS Moroka Local Municipality, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are delighted to have been chosen to host the G20 Ministerial Outreach Programme on Tourism. Our municipality, home to renowned artists like Gogo Nostokana Dr. Esther Mahlangu, stands as a cultural hub of IsiNdebele, which is our main tourism attraction.”

Ramatsestse highlighted the growth potential in the local tourism sector.

“With tourism among the four G20 priorities, we see this as an opportunity to place our municipality on the global tourism map. We want the G20 outreach to support our local tourism operators, who will showcase their goods at the event, and we hope to gain resources that will help them grow and create jobs,” said Ramatsetse.

As the G20 Summit approaches, this engagement represents a critical step towards enhancing the local tourism landscape and fostering a sustainable economic environment in the region.
