Kempton Park – Just in time for the busiest—and often most dangerous—time of the year, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has launched a brand-new fleet of 68 high-performance vehicles to strengthen law enforcement visibility across the city.

The upgraded fleet includes 50 VW Polos, 10 GTIs, and eight VW motorbikes, all geared to boost crime-prevention patrols, improve traffic policing, and ensure faster response times to emergencies. According to the department, the new additions will allow officers to move more strategically across high-risk zones and respond to community complaints with greater speed and precision.

Community Safety MMC, Ald. Sizakele Masuku, said the timing of the fleet rollout was critical, given the expected spike in criminal activity during the festive season.

“This intervention couldn’t have come at a better time. Crime levels rise over the festive period, and we have already devised a deployment plan to ensure these vehicles are used optimally so that residents enjoy a safer festive season and beyond,” Masuku said.
“It is imperative that police have the necessary resources to effectively tackle lawlessness in the region.”

Masuku also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity, reminding communities that the vehicles are strictly for law enforcement duties.

“We encourage the public to report any misuse or abuse of EMPD vehicles. These resources are dedicated to keeping our communities safe—nothing else.”

The fleet is already operational, with vehicles dispersed across various parts of Ekurhuleni to increase visibility, deter criminal activity, and support the city’s festive-season safety strategy.
