Steelpoort: The Eastern Limb Mines Joint Career Expo 2024 is an eagerly awaited event that brings together almost five thousands pretertiary learners, Department of Education officials,  industry leaders, employers, and job seekers in the mining sector. This annual event, held in collaboration with the region’s top mining companies, such as GLENCORE, ANGLO AMERICAN, BAUBA, MODIKWA, NORTHAM, SAMANCOR, SAFATENG, DWARSRIVIER, BOKONI, TWO RIVERS, BLACK RIVER INVESTMENT, BOLENG TRUST  AND BCR. The aim of these companies is to  create opportunities for those looking to launch or advance their careers in the mining industry.

The mining sector has always played a crucial role in the Eastern Limb region’s economy, with its rich deposits of platinum, palladium, and other precious metals. The Expo, now in its second year, has been instrumental in fostering growth, development, and job creation within the industry.

One of the standout features of the Eastern Limb Mines Joint Career Expo is its inclusive nature. It caters to various disciplines within the sector, including engineering, geology, metallurgy, and environmental sciences. Companies participating in the event range from large-scale mining corporations to small-scale enterprises, giving job seekers a diverse range of options to explore. African Rainbow Minerals which has many subsidiary mining companies in the Eastern Limb Region it was represented by Mr Benny Boshielo head of corporate affairs at ARM,” as ARM we believe in creating  human resources for communities w8ere we do business, today we are here  to expose the children from this area to different career choices that exist within the mining sector. Our Motto as ARM is to get the best learners to ultimately work for us upon completing their vocational training. We have three thousand university students that have benefited from our various bursary schemes,  today we  are establishing Chair of Geology  Department at University of KwaZulu-Natal and we hope to expand this to University of Limpopo and University of  Venda as we have done so at the University  of Pretoria”  concluded Boshielo.

One of the event organizers Mr Tumisho  Kekana who is a ESD Manager  for  Anglo American  Mototolo Complex he succinctly and briefly described the purpose of the expo as an opportunity to equip  learners with information that will help them to make informed career choices “ we are doing this to equip the learners with various career options that exists both in and outside mining industry and this is a joint  CSI initiative which was co-funded by various mining companies that are conducting business in this area. This Career Expo is expected to service up to five thousands learners from various schools in this area in the next  five days ” quipped Kekana
