Kildare – A vibrant celebration of culture and heritage took place in Kildare on Saturday, as the Khosa Royal Family and Jongilanga Traditional Council hosted a colorful cultural event.
The gathering brought together community members, leaders, and guests to honor their traditions and reinforce their roots.
The event was more than just a festival; it was a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural values for future generations. The King, Hosi L Khosa, who has been a guiding figure in the area for many years, addressed the community with an important message.
“We must follow the rules that guide us as a community,” said King Khosa. “Household levies should not be paid during funerals, and issues like initiation schools should be handled respectfully without involving police. We need to respect our culture.”
The celebration was supported by the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), the MPHTKL Chairperson Kgoshi L.M Mokoena, and the Department of Agriculture.
“Cultural Day is not just about dressing in traditional attire or performing dances. It’s about celebrating who we are, remembering our roots, and acknowledging the diverse customs that shape our communities. It’s a time to reflect on our shared identity and the values that unite us”, said Kgoshi Mokoena.
Since 2023, Miss Metsi Crown Queen Lerato Maluleke has been actively participating in Jongilanga Cultural Day by performing poetry. She uses her talent to inspire young people and promote cultural pride. “Art and culture are powerful tools to empower and motivate our youth,” she said. “We want them to be confident, proud, and future leaders.”
This event shows that through celebrating our culture, we can strengthen community bonds and ensure that our traditions are passed down with respect and pride.
