Mpumalanga — In the vibrant heart of Bushbuckridge, Portia Nxumalo is emerging as a symbol of hope, resilience and community-driven change. Her inspiring rise from humble beginnings to becoming a finalist for Miss Inspiration SA 2025/2026 is a story built on purpose, passion and deep commitment to those around her.

A proud daughter of Xanthia Trust, Nxumalo’s journey has been shaped by perseverance and service. She previously owned Wethusi Wear, a lingerie boutique dedicated to confidence and body positivity — an early reflection of her mission to uplift women and young people through entrepreneurship.

But her work extends far beyond business. Nxumalo has poured her time and energy into community outreach, leading projects such as clothing drives, financial literacy workshops and youth-skills initiatives.

“In my community, I saw a gap — young people lacked access to basic skills and confidence,” she says. “That’s why I started these projects: to equip them with tools for a brighter future.”

Her efforts earned widespread recognition, and in 2024 she served as Provincial Mpumalanga Miss Charity Queen, a role that strengthened her passion for service. “Being Miss Charity Queen was a humbling experience. It reinforced my calling to make a real, tangible difference,” she shares.

Now, as an official finalist for Miss Inspiration SA 2025/2026, Nxumalo sees the platform as an opportunity to expand her reach. “This opportunity allows me to touch more lives and show that dreams are valid, no matter where you come from,” she says. “It’s not just about the crown; it’s about responsibility — inspiring those from small communities like mine.”

Her advocacy focuses on youth empowerment through dignity, education and economic confidence. She continues to champion clothing donations, financial literacy training and early childhood hygiene education.
“Growing up without access or exposure taught me the importance of confidence and basic support,” Nxumalo reflects. “When children have these tools, they can dream without fear.”

Her recent projects include a successful oral health campaign in partnership with Dr Khumo of Mapulaneng Hospital, as well as collaborations with the Sheez Woman Club. “These initiatives remind me why service is at the core of my life,” she says.

Balancing her busy schedule is a constant challenge, but Nxumalo approaches it with intention. She plans her week carefully, prioritising community work, personal development and wellness. “Learning to say ‘no’ and asking for help has become a strength,” she notes.

Her daily routine includes project management, social-media engagement and pageant training — all anchored by a deep sense of purpose. She credits her family for their unwavering support, and her mentor, Phindile Ingrid Khoza, founder of Sheez Woman Club, for shaping much of her journey. “My family is my backbone, and Phindile has opened many doors for me,” she says.

Looking ahead to 2025, Nxumalo hopes to expand her empowerment initiatives and introduce sustainable programmes focused on dignity, financial literacy and youth development. “My goal is to create a legacy that continues to impact lives, even beyond my direct involvement,” she affirms.

As she continues uplifting those around her, Portia Nxumalo stands as proof that true empowerment begins within — and grows outward, transforming lives one step at a time.
