East London: Residents of Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) have been warned to stay clear of Eastern Beach after a dead whale was discovered in the waters early this morning.

According to a public notice issued by the Buffalo City Metro, preliminary investigations suggest the whale may have been struck by a boat, with authorities observing significant injuries on the massive marine mammal.

Although the carcass is some distance from the shoreline, officials cautioned that floating remains could attract sharks closer to the beach. As a safety precaution, Eastern Beach has been temporarily closed to swimmers, surfers, and fishermen until further notice.

Marine specialists and other relevant authorities are continuing their investigations and closely monitoring the situation. The public will be updated as soon as new information becomes available and the beach is deemed safe to reopen.

“The safety of our community is our top priority,” the Metro said, urging residents to cooperate and avoid the area.
