Buffalo City — The Buffalo City Metro Safety and Security Cluster has raided on a Duncan Village home accused of selling medicines without proper authorisation.
The sting operation — a joint effort between BCM Municipal Health Services, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Health — led to the arrest of a woman who now faces charges under Section 22A of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act 101 of 1965.
Authorities found various pharmaceutical medicines, including antibiotics, allegedly being sold illegally from the premises.
A Department of Health pharmacist was on site to verify the pills and confirm their status.
The suspect has been charged with the illegal sale of medication, a serious offence that puts public health at risk.
Officials have urged residents to report any person or shop selling medicines without the required papers.
“Illegal sales of medication are not just a crime — they are a threat to the safety of our communities,” said BCM Municipal Health Services in a statement on their official Facebook page.
