Johannesburg – The Gauteng Provincial Government has welcomed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder of media personality and security entrepreneur Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, describing the breakthrough as a critical step in confronting organised crime in the province.
Police confirmed on Monday that the suspects were taken into custody following their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of Warras last week. According to SAPS, the arrests were made at Morafe Hostel, and the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
As previously reported by Timeless News, Warras was gunned down outside the Zambezi Building in Johannesburg’s CBD, where he had been contracted to assist with securing property linked to criminal syndicates operating in hijacked buildings.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Gauteng Provincial Government praised law enforcement for acting swiftly in what it described as a “senseless and cruel” killing.
“The Gauteng Provincial Government welcomes the swift arrest of two suspects in connection with the senseless and cruel murder of DJ Warras,” the statement read. “According to police reports, the suspects were apprehended at Morafe Hostel and are currently in custody.”
The provincial government said preliminary investigations indicate that Warras may have been targeted because of his work combating criminal activity linked to hijacked buildings in the Johannesburg CBD — a long-standing issue that has plagued the inner city.
“The cold-hearted murder of a community-oriented and socially conscious entrepreneur like DJ Warras must serve as a line in the sand for our city and our province,” the statement continued. “This tragedy will galvanise provincial and municipal authorities to fast-track efforts to dismantle hijacked buildings and the violent syndicates that control them.”
The government also commended detectives involved in the case, describing the arrests as a reflection of professional policing under challenging conditions.
“The provincial government commends the exceptional police work that led to these arrests. This is a testament to the skill, commitment and bravery of our hard-working detectives.”
Acting Premier Jacob Mamabolo reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies in tackling organised crime.
“We are resolved that from this profound loss must emerge a stronger, more coordinated and relentless effort to dismantle criminal networks that undermine the security and prosperity of Gauteng residents,” Mamabolo said.
