SIYABONGA “SKOPO” MOLOI CELEBRATES HERITAGE DAY WITH ELDERS IN ETWATWA

Emaphupheni, Etwatwa — The vibrant spirit of Emaphupheni Etwatwa was palpable this week as Ward 65 Councillor Siyabonga “Skopo” Moloi hosted a heartfelt Heritage Day celebration for the elders of the community in his personal capacity as the community activist. The event, held on Tuesday, showcased the rich cultural fabric and traditions of the area, bringing together residents of all ages to honor their heritage and the wisdom of their elders.
Drawing an impressive crowd, the event featured an array of activities, including traditional music performances, dance, and storytelling sessions, all aimed at celebrating the diverse cultures that make up the Ekurhuleni community. Mr Moloi opened the proceedings with a warm welcome, expressing his gratitude to the elders for their contributions to society and the invaluable knowledge they pass down through generations.
“The wisdom and traditions of our elders are the cornerstones of our identity as a community ” said Moloi.
“Heritage Day is not just a celebration of our past; it’s a reminder of our responsibility to honor and preserve our culture for future generations and an opportunity to appreciate our elders for the wonderful work that they have done of raising us to be role models to youngsters .” added Moloi
The highlights of the day included traditional African indigenous games and folklore music, which brought the crowd together, celebrating with joy and unity.
One of the community members Mr Steven Maseko shared his thoughts on the significance of the day. “This gathering shows us that our stories, our songs, and our traditions are still alive. We must pass them down to our children and grandchildren so they understand where they come from and let me also thank Mr Moloi for doing a good job of staying connected with the elders of the ward.” concluded Maseko.
Food stalls featuring an array of traditional dishes added to the festivities, with residents enjoying local delicacies such as umphokoqo, chakalaka, and boerewors rolls, making the event not just a celebration of culture but also a culinary journey.
Community members echoed their appreciation for Mr Moloi’s initiative, praising his dedication to fostering a spirit of unity and respect for cultural heritage among the youth. Parents and children alike participated in various cultural activities that highlighted the importance of their roots.
