Polokwane:Premier of Limpopo, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha believes that development work done in Limpopo since 1994 has laid a base for future growth through investment. He was officially opening the third Limpopo Investment Conference today, expressing his optimism for the province’s economic future and the potential for significant investment. The two-day conference, held in Polokwane, aims to raise R30 billion, adding to the R250 billion raised in the previous two years.

“There is marked difference from what Limpopo was 29 years ago. When you visited the rural areas of Limpopo then you would have found that the common features in the settlements were mud houses. Today, in the same villages, you would hardly find mud houses, they are composed of sprawling urban type of houses. The infrastructure that this government has built in those areas from housing, roads, electricity and water is massive and has changed the lives of the people for the better, making it better place for investment to take place.”

The Premier highlighted the province’s abundant natural resources, favourable climatic conditions for agricultural produce, and strategic location as an access gate to the SADC market with over 300 million citizens. He also emphasised the province’s commitment to inclusive economic growth, aligning with global sustainable development goals.

“We are making progress with our Special Economic Zone programme. We have laid the bulk infrastructure in the North Site of Musina-Makhado SEZ and are inviting industrialists to set up their productive infrastructure in light and metallurgical industries,” Premier Mathabatha stated. “The implementation of the Limpopo Industrial Master Plan, with the support of our private sector partners, will certainly propel our economy to a high-growth trajectory and create wealth and much-needed jobs.”

The Premier expressed his confidence in achieving the conference’s target of R30 billion, stating, “Our target for this year’s conference is R30 billion, and we are confident that we will attain it. Limpopo is ready to do business with your good selves. I urge you to seize this opportunity and invest in our province.”

The conference continues on Thursday, 19 October 2023 after a day spent with various streams dealing with agro-processing, automative industry and infrastructure investment.
