Omoda has updated its C5 range in South Africa, replacing the entry-level naturally aspirated engine with a turbocharged unit, alongside mechanical, cosmetic, and pricing changes.

Following the launch of the C5 Luxury X and Elegance X earlier in 2025, Omoda South Africa has confirmed that the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has been removed from the lineup. This revision affects the Street and Style models, now renamed Street+ and Style X, bringing improved performance and a R10 000 price increase.

Performance Upgrades
The C5 Street+ now features a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine producing 115 kW and 230 N.m, replacing the previous 83 kW/138 N.m naturally aspirated unit. Power is delivered through a CVT transmission, while the suspension remains a MacPherson front and torsion beam rear setup, complemented by ventilated front disc brakes.

The Style X retains the same turbocharged 1.5-litre engine but swaps the CVT for a dual-clutch transmission, improving both acceleration and fuel efficiency (claimed 6.9 L/100 km, down from 7.4 L/100 km). The rear torsion beam suspension is replaced with a more sophisticated multilink setup, enhancing ride quality and handling.

Styling and Interior Enhancements
The C5 Style X also receives refreshed exterior styling, including LED headlamps. Inside, the model now features a leather-trimmed steering wheel, sports seats, and increased boot capacity, from 378 litres to 442 litres. Folding the rear seatbacks expands cargo space to a claimed 1 149 litres. Both the Street+ and Style X maintain the standard tech and safety features of the outgoing models.

Updated Pricing in South Africa
The revised Omoda C5 range is priced as follows:

  • C5 1.5T 230T Street+ – R339 900
  • C5 1.5T 230T Style X – R374 900
  • C5 1.5T 230T Luxury X – R425 900
  • C5 1.5T 230T Elegance X – R465 900

All models come with a five-year/150 000 km warranty and a two-year/25 000 km service plan, while a ten-year/1 000 000 km engine warranty is available for the first owner.

Looking Ahead
By removing the naturally aspirated engine from the C5 range, Omoda appears to be making room in its South African lineup for the upcoming C4, which will serve as the brand’s entry-level offering when it arrives in 2026.
