Sermon by Thulane: Faith, Knowledge, and Action

Sermon by Thulane: Faith, Knowledge, and Action

Faith requires us to acquire knowledge and take Action for everything we believe God for. Picture Credit: Supplied

Beloved congregation, tonight we gather to explore the profound themes of Faith, Knowledge, and Action. These three elements are essential in our walk with Christ, and I invite you to reflect with me as we delve into relevant scriptures that illuminate each of these themes.

Scripture Readings

Let’s begin with our foundational texts:

1. Faith:Matthew 9:29 – “Then Jesus put his hands over their eyes and said, ‘You will have what your faith expects.'”

2. Knowledge:Proverbs 4:7 – “Wisdom is the most valuable commodity; buy it. Revelation knowledge is what you need; invest in it!”

3. Action:James 2:17 – “So faith that doesn’t involve action is phony (fruitless).”

Faith

Let us first consider FAITH. In Matthew 9:29, we see a powerful interaction between Jesus and two blind men. Jesus declares, “You will have what your faith expects.” This statement highlights a crucial element of faith: expectation. When we believe God for something, we must embody an attitude of expectation—it’s the motivating force that propels us into action.

Think of it! Jesus, in that moment, not only exhibited the healing power of God but also demonstrated His intimate knowledge of God’s will. He understood that faith is essential to pleasing God. Jesus laid His hands on their eyes, and by faith, their sight was restored. This teaches us that faith must be active; it must be coupled with expectation.

Knowledge

Now, let’s delve into the realm of KNOWLEDGE. Proverbs 4:7 tells us that wisdom is the most valuable commodity. The scripture emphasizes the importance of seeking after wisdom and acquiring revelation knowledge. How do we, as followers of Christ, invest in this knowledge?

Jesus understood that His time was short, so He promised the Holy Spirit as our helper and guide. The Bible tells us that there are 9 gifts of the Holy  Spirit  and Revelation Knowledge is one of those gifts . But what does it require from us? It calls for our commitment in the form of prayer, scripture reading, and fasting. These practices are our investments into the treasure of revelation knowledge.

Action

Finally, we turn to ACTION, as articulated in James 2:17: “So faith that doesn’t involve action is phony.” Faith is like a seed—it needs to be nurtured to bear fruit. What does the fruit of our faith look like?

A consistent prayer life

An intimate relationship with God through scripture

Spiritual maturity

The inner power to discern God’s voice amidst worldly clamor,

Steadfastness in the face of trials,

And honesty in our dealings and relationships.

Each of these fruits requires action. We cannot simply believe; we must act on that belief.

Behind the Scenes: Preparation for Action

I want to highlight that often, before the grand action, God is at work behind the scenes. Consider the lives of our biblical heroes:

Samuel received divine communication in obscurity before becoming a prophet.

Moses was transformed in the wilderness before leading Israel to freedom.

The prophet Isaiah gave sneak previews of the Messiah’s coming.

John the Baptist prepared the way, heralding Jesus’ arrival.

Even  our Lord Jesus Christ was led into the wilderness, facing trials before stepping into His ministry.

Before any mighty action, God often prepares us through testing, refining, and molding our character. This preparation is essential for fruitful action.

Applying Faith, Knowledge, and Action

As we contemplate our lives, consider the areas where we are struggling to act upon our faith. Perhaps you have received increased faith or pursued knowledge diligently. You may face challenges that seem insurmountable: starting that ministry, writing that book, leading a company, or overcoming obstacles in personal relationships.

Remember, you are not alone. Your moments of struggle are not devoid of purpose. God is preparing you for the powerful actions that He has ordained for your life.

Finally

In closing, let us remember that Faith (Romans 10:17) is an incredible force. As we build our Knowledge of God through the scriptures and as we activate our faith in Action (1 Peter 1:13), we align ourselves with God’s will, empowering us to accomplish His purpose in our lives.

Let us go from this place, inspired to embody faith, invest in knowledge, and take action. May our lives reflect the glory and power of our Lord. Thank you for allowing me to share the Word of God with you tonight Amen.
