MATHALE TO MOVE SDA OUT OF STAGNATION­

Groblersdal – The Board of Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA) today announced the appointment of Mr Mokgosi Patrick Mathale as Acting Chief Executive Officer, with immediate effect. In a statement presented during the special board meeting today , SDA Board Chairperson Mr Tshabedi Serote said that the decision to appoint Mr Mathale flows from a secondment resolution from the shareholder, Sekhukhune District Municipality’s Council meeting which took place last week Wednesday. Mathale’s appointment by SDA board received a majority endorsement considering the earnestness to fill the critical positions amidst several challenges that the Agency is grappling with. His appointment comes after months of stagnation that hampered operational issues such as filing senior management positions such as Board Secretary, Chief Finance Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Project Manager.

Mathale comes from a strong administrative and organisational management background as a former regional secretary of the ruling African National Congress. As head of administration at regional level Mathale accumulated experience from daily coordination of network of administrative duties, maintaining all relevant documentation, organisational statistics, records and correspondences between local, provincial and national structures. SDA Chairperson, Mr Tshabedi Serote, said timing of appointing Mr Mathale is perfect as there are immediate tasks such as ensuring that the unexpended budget of the Agency is committed, and economic opportunities are generated. Serote added that the Board is confident that Mathale is sufficiently briefed to deliver on the expectations of the Agency ,“This has been a tough period for us, it did take time to get out of the woods. We only got the Council resolution yesterday and had to call this meeting. The process that led to appointment of Mr Mathale came with lots of lessons for in terms of clarifying the blurring lines between powers of the Council” added Serote

Among his various academic achievements, Mathale holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Business School (SBS). He also holds qualifications in Municipal Finance, Economic Development, Planning and Leadership Development from different local government capacitation institutions such as CPMD under the University of Witwatersrand.

Mathale brings to SDA a wealth of experience and expertise at senior management level after serving as Senior Manager in the Provincial Department of Roads and Transport between 2010 and 2012. He led the Special Programmes unit in the Office of the Executive Mayor as Manager before steering the Office of the Executive Mayor under three Executive Mayors as Acting Deputy Director. As a community builder and committed servant of the people Mathale worked as an educator for more than 20 years working in different schools across the District. He also served as SGB member, Chairperson of Groblersdal Hospital Board and Ward Councillor for Ward 20 of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality between 2000 and 2005.

Mathale was consistently responsible for anchoring efficiencies in the overarching strategic and political responsibilities that enable political office bearers to perform effectively and optimally. He positively influenced the functioning of Office of Executive Mayor in many facets by focusing on service delivery and achievement of good governance goals. “I thank the Board and staff for welcoming me. As for the issue of advertising the key Senior Management positions, I commit that the advertisement will be in the public domain by the end of April 2023” responded Mathale

Mathale added that there is no specific turnaround strategy for the agency, however, the SDA Board mandated him to champion the coordination of economic sector engagement forum which will harness the consolidation of the derivatives of Strategic Planning session held in February 2023.
