BIDVEST BUILT A STATE-OF-THE-ART WATER TREATMENT PLANT LUANCHED
Daggakraal:The provision of basic services in schools is instrumental in the advancement of the culture of learning and teaching. It is estimated that one in three people worldwide have no access to adequate basic sanitation. In an effort to address this crisis, the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport has been mandated with a mammoth task by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government to ensure the provision of basis services in all schools across the Province.
On Thursday, Ethembeni Primary School in Daggakraal celebrated the launch of a state-of-the-art Clear Enviro Loo Sanitation Treatment Plant donated by Bidvest. The project which started in 2019, encountered a number of challenges including Covid-19 and the high water table of the area which presented significant challenges towards an installation of a sewage plant. This necessitated an unconventional approach which Bidvest offered as part of their social corporate investment initiatives.
Ms P Mathenjwa from the Department of Public Works who spearheaded the projected narrated the challenges experienced as a learning curve and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to service delivery. This masterpiece of engineering, impressed Mr S. Mthembu from Department of Education . “A child visits the toilet at least twice a day but up to five times if necessary. In other countries see, a toilet is a privilege but in South Africa is a right therefore, Bidvest should be applauded for responding to this constitutional imperative,” concluded Mthembu.
